Ford Truck Body Fitment Guide

Choose the truck and body together. The right Ford work-truck upfit depends on the actual chassis, body dimensions and the weight of everything carried or towed.

1. Pickup or chassis cab?

F-250, F-350 and F-450 pickups use pickup-specific replacement bodies and mounting arrangements. F-350, F-450, F-550 and F-600 chassis cabs are a separate body-builder platform. Do not substitute a pickup body simply because the truck model matches.

2. Cab and dimensions

Regular Cab is the single-row cab. SuperCab and Crew Cab add passenger space and change wheelbase. Measure CA from the back of the cab to the rear axle; measure wheelbase between the front and rear axles. The same CA can occur on different wheelbases.

3. Weight and equipment

GVWR is the maximum loaded vehicle weight. Available payload must account for the truck, body, hoist or crane, accessories, occupants, cargo and trailer tongue or pin weight. Front and rear axle ratings, tires and load distribution also limit the build.

Choose your Ford platform

F-600 is a Regular Cab Super Duty chassis cab. F-650 and F-750 are Medium Duty trucks with their own frame and body-planning requirements.

How we match a body to your truck

We review the model year or VIN, cab style, pickup versus chassis-cab frame, CA, wheelbase, single or dual rear wheels, GVWR and axle ratings. We then check the selected body mounting drawing, installed body weight, frame and fuel-system clearance, rear overhang, center of gravity and any hoist, crane, stabilizer or power requirements.

Where a supplier publishes a dimensional match, we show it as a planning candidate. Where only a custom-build example is published, we request the application details before assigning a Ford chassis. A supplier photo is not a fitment chart.

Common truck-body questions

Can a larger GVWR truck use any smaller truck body?

No. Frame geometry, body length, rear-wheel width, mounting points, chassis height and equipment clearance still matter. A higher weight rating does not automatically establish compatibility.

Can I compare brands for the same type of body?

Yes. Compare service bodies, dump bodies, landscape bodies, flatbeds and other configurations across our suppliers. The final quote identifies the body manufacturer, chassis and included equipment.

Are body volume and hoist capacity the truck’s payload?

No. Cubic-yard volume, crane lift ratings and hoist lifting capacity describe different capabilities. The completed truck’s actual weight and axle loading determine how much it can carry.

Can I buy the Ford truck and upfit together?

Yes. We can help plan a commercial vehicle purchased from Sam Galloway Ford and an upfit for your business. Installed pricing, tax, availability and timing are confirmed with your quote; purchases are completed in store.

Ford body-builder reference PDFs

Choose the document that matches the truck’s model year. The supplied 2015 Body Application Guide is historical; use current Ford engineering references for a new build. These Body Builders Layout Books provide model, dimensional, weight and mounting information and do not replace approval of the complete upfit.
